Client

Traveltek is a global leisure software company that has been in operation for 20 years and is represented in 30 countries worldwide, including the UK, North America, LATAM, and APAC regions.

Having their customers at the heart of every process, Traveltek successfully develops and enhances connections between customers, suppliers, and traders through technology.

The mission of Traveltek is to act as an efficient global marketplace for business in the industry. Traveltek helps customers and suppliers make the process of selling holidays easier by embedding top-notch technology.

In particular, Traveltek's main focus for several years was developing an exceptional product for selling cruises.

Challenge

Connectivity is the fundamental building block of the travel industry. Travellers and agents booking on their behalf need to be connected to a huge range of travel suppliers – airlines, hotels, cruise lines, car rental companies etc. Traveltek has a long history of building software that provides this connectivity; in a post-covid marketplace, striving for efficiency and resilience, Traveltek identified the need to rebuild connectivity to meet growing market demands.

To achieve this goal, Traveltek set the course to modernize its integration platform using cloud-native services to achieve maximum scalability and cost-efficiency.

At the same time, they wanted to improve automation to reduce the time required for the onboarding of new cruise providers.

The Traveltek development team was keen to adopt best-practice and ensure that cloud native technology was exploited to the fullest extent. To augment their newly formed team, they were looking for a partner with relevant technology and domain expertise.

Solution

Traveltek engineering team decided to build the new platform using cloud-native technology. AWS services perfectly suited the project's business and technology needs, providing an innovation playbook and tools to achieve the goal. Initially, the Traveltek team created various components in Python to link them with AWS components.

Traveltek aimed to move with this project faster and more efficiently, so they teamed up with DataArt to fill the AWS-related experience and capacity gap. With the needed expertise and certified professionals, DataArt complemented the Traveltek development team with senior-level engineers in just two months.

Highlights

The joint team has developed a modern, scalable micro-service architecture on AWS:

  • Integration with cruise providers via flat file data - the base for future microservices integrations;
  • Domain model extension to cover air product integration
  • Template-based approach to integrations with cruise providers to accelerate new provider onboarding from months to weeks;
  • Core search engine leveraging AWS OpenSearch;
  • Terraform for provisioning required resources and the infrastructure-as-code (IaC) approach;
  • Improved resilience, scalability, and cost efficiency due to the use of AWS Lambda and AWS Step Functions.

DataArt engineers were closely involved in building the solution and were able to share their knowledge in approaching the development and working with AWS services to enable Traveltek to benefit from them in the future.

Outcomes

Traveltek leveraged AWS and DataArt to build a new integration platform using modern cloud-native services with scalability and cost-efficiency.

The template-based approach to new cruise providers’ onboarding reduced processing time from months to weeks. Being able to onboard more partners faster, Traveltek now helps their customers benefit from a wider variety of cruise providers improving their customers’ experience.

Along with this, through the engagement with DataArt, the Traveltek team improved their capabilities in approaching development and working with AWS services.
