Client
The client is a leading Online Travel Agency in the USA. Its mission is to be the best travel dealmakers in the world by providing any customer with smart and easy ways to access the very best deals available on hotel rooms, flights, rental cars, vacation packages and cruises, so they can be there for the moments that matter the most to them.
Partner role in project
The DataArt team functioned as subject matter experts in crafting the migration process. Collaborating closely with the client’s infrastructure team, DataArt successfully executed the migration of the existing on-premises applications to the GCP.
Challenge
The tight deadline due to the datacenter decommissioning added complexity to the project. Additionally, the deployment of apps to various development environments within GCP. DataArt had to navigate the legacy platform without any knowledge transfer from the client's former development team. Also, integrating the applications with multiple GDSs (Travelport, Sabre, Accelya, etc.)
Solution
Together with the client’s team, DataArt did the migration of 4 modules (searching, pricing, booking, and post-booking) of 6 applications to GCE in 2 phases. The first step involved the lift & shift from on-prem VMs to Google's GCE instances, while ensuring the continuity to the integrated services, such as Oracle Databases, apps deployed in GKE, etc. The second step was migrating the legacy app to the new stack.
Conclusion
The end result was fully functional, having 58 instances moved of such apps to GCE. Moreover, the solution provided deprecation of the on-prem datacenter leading to cost-optimization, apart from improved reliability and uptime.
