Designing & Implementing a Music Distribution and Analytics Platform on GCP

Client

FUGA is an industry-leading technology and services company for international rightsholders specializing in music distribution and marketing services. Connected to over 260 digital service providers worldwide, the FUGA system manages close to 3 million tracks, with up to 2.5 million deliveries being performed every month.

Challenge

The Trends team developing the BigQuery-based system for analytics processing and delivery was challenged with the task of finding a balance between query costs and user experience. Meanwhile, the Search team was resolving the issue of Elasticsearch cluster update, which was insufficient to process search requests in hieroglyphic writing. It impacted a significant part of FUGA users.

Solution

DataArt’s senior back-end engineers are working in close collaboration with Fuga developers and are actively involved in the work of Trends and Search functional teams: from initial architecture planning to implementation.

Leveraging the power of Google Cloud Platform analytics, the solution included:
  • Hosting most FUGA services on Google Cloud Platform analytics tools such as GKE for containerization and Cloud Firestore for secure non-relational data storage.
  • Migrating and updating the Elasticsearch cluster on GCP to enhance performance and support hieroglyph indexing.
  • Optimizing and modernizing the API for seamless communication between the users' platform and BigQuery.

Conclusion

With API rework FUGA optimized three 1-GBs each BigQuery requests to a single 1.5 GBs request, significantly reducing data processing associated costs. Real-time monitoring and alerting for users' requests setup improved user experience. The Elasticsearch migration to Google Cloud Platform analytics tools resolved the issue of version updates, improved hieroglyphs indexing, and boosted performance.

Aligned with the product roadmap, these completed sub-projects have significantly enhanced Fuga’s systems’ performance and reduced service costs. The combination of DataArt’s and Fuga’s music data analytics expertise with Google Cloud Platform analytics tooling positions Fuga to move further towards ambitious goals for platform development and innovation.
