DataArt Wins Third Place at the InnovateNYP

New York, NY – June 13, 2016 – DataArt, the global technology consulting firm that creates end-to-end solutions, won the third place in the InnovateNYP: Pediatric App Challenge, hosted by the NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.

Sixteen teams participated in a ten-week competition to develop a working prototype of a software application to advance pediatric care and were judged on creativity, ease of use, design, innovation, benefit for users and overall quality.

DataArt developed a prototype of a complete patient engagement solution for pediatric patients with diabetes, which can be customized for any other clinical state and consists of two interconnected applications: one for the child, one for the parents.

The children’s application is gamified by an animated interactive squirrel that leads the child through the daily schedule, suggests personalized educational content and rewards for compliance. The application captures digital glucometer readings, gathers daily statistics about the child’s condition and reports it to the parental application.

The parental app guides parents throughout the treatment process and monitors the child’s condition and progress through a history of vital indicators. This provides educational content and recommendations for the child's daily routine, diet and activity. It also reminds the parents of the time for the child to take medication and check blood sugar levels, as well as scheduled doctor visits, helping to reduce the number of risk factors.

“We felt that teaching a child self-management skills while at the same time creating educated parent involvement is crucial to improving the long-term health outcomes for children with chronic conditions, you need to engage the whole family” said Daniel Piekarz, Head of Healthcare and Life Sciences Practice at DataArt.

The announcement came during the Patient Engagement Innovation Panel Discussion at the Harvard Club hosted by DataArt’s Healthcare and Life Sciences Practice, which brought together technology executives from major hospitals and healthtech companies in an enticing dialogue on patient engagement innovation.
