DataArt juror at Hack{IT}Over praises quality and innovation of new insurance industry solutions developed in just 30 hours

Hannover, München, 3 May 2018 The technical jury, DataArt, for the Talanx-sponsored Hack{IT}Over hackathon in Hannover earlier this week, has praised the “impressive” level of coding created in the competition and the solutions that teams developed at break-neck speed.

The 27-29 April competition attracted 120 participants who were given just thirty hours to devise new software solutions for the issues of mobility, the working world of the future, and speech recognition. Participants worked around the clock in twenty-four mixed-discipline teams from the worlds of business, mathematics, IT software engineering and UX and UI design to develop new concepts for insurance company staff and clients.

Top prizes ranged from 2,500 to 10,000 Euros.

The high level of results challenged the jury to choose the winners. After much deliberation, three projects were chosen to win the prize money.

  • Winner (first prize) - the Telli group - with a technology that makes legally compliant documents interactively understandable for end customers.
  • Second place - team Seraphim with a solution that brings clients together with suitable insurance advisors.
  • Third place - team InsurMe who produced a chatbot to enable automatic claims processing for the automotive sector.

Global technology consultancy DataArt provided the hackathon’s technical jury.

DataArt Wroklow juror Alexander Trishchenko, who checked thousands of lines of codes during the event, said:

"Going forward, the quality of technology solutions in these areas will be make or break issues in the insurance industry. Ideas are excellent, but quality and workability are everything.

“This was an extremely challenging event, as we insisted that codes should work, be written during the event and represent one of the challenges. Also crucial in judging was a codes’ readability, scalability and flexibility. The standard produced was impressively high."

The jury chose on four criteria:

1) Impact - does the project solve a real customer problem
2) Innovation - is the project innovative for the insurance industry
3) Wow-factor - how good is the implementation of the project?
4) Code quality - how good is the hack of the project?
