Scala Developer

Position Overview

The client is an industry leader in the fields of cryptography and distributed systems.

The team consists of a lead, 2 Scala developers, 1 QA, and 1 DevOps. For now, the team works with two-week sprints and track tasks using Jira although the process will evolve over time.

The project is to develop a group of mini-projects providing micoservices and other building blocks for creating solutions.



  • Given a high-level outline of a goal create estimated Jira tasks to achieve that goal including working with our QA resource to create an acceptable plan and a demonstration of working output
  • Informally "presenting" (talking over) a high-level design for a solution
  • Coding to existing standards, making suggestions to improve code, creating and working through pull requests
  • Performing peer reviews of others pull requests
  • Demonstrating to peers a working solution
  • Creating CI pipelines to produce binary artifacts (jar or Docker containers)
  • Deploying Docker containers to test with
  • Supporting QA with queries regarding existing functionality and the production landscape
  • Documenting new services using markup
  • Taking responsibility for the quality of a release of a mini-project (i.e. not just the code you’ve just added)
  • Maintain good communications with relevant team members

Required Skills and Experience

  • 3+ years of experience working with Scala
  • Hands-on experience working with Akka HTTP, ScalaTest
  • gRPC or general microservice knowledge
  • Experience working with Docker
  • Knowledge of Git
  • Experience working with network security
  • Experience working with GitHub actions or similar
  • Ability to work in a small team and make deployments to production
