Custom Software Development Services

To Russia with Love

March 23, 2006
Corporate Deal Maker, a sister publication of The Deal magazine, salutes Russia for its "world-class science and engineering talent". "The country is emerging as a prime destination for software application development, system design, computational modeling and other complex technical work."

The article features DataArt as an example of a strong R&D operation, quoting Eugene Goland, "Russian companies have a much higher success rate on projects that require lots of research and scientific skill, and less on projects that require a high level of documentation and longer-term management skills... I'm pretty sure India will remain the destination for general and large-scale outsourcing and Russia will become more and more known for its high-level technical skills." The article goes on to highlight a case study of Bonland Industries, which turned to DataArt after "disappointing results" with an Indian vendor. "The hourly rate was slightly higher than in India, but according to Bonland's president for information systems, the quality and technical capabilities of the Russian team more than made up for the difference in price."

DataArt Releases Version 1.3 of the Charting Solution for Microsoft® ASP.NET

March 14, 2006
DataArt released a new version of its NETChart component for ASP.NET, a low cost charting solution for Microsoft Visual Studio .NET. The new core feature of NETChart 1.3 is its integration with Visual Studio 2005 and added functionality.

The new release allows developers to use NETChart with both VS 2005 and VS2003, and to migrate their solutions to the new Microsoft VS 2005 platform. It supports side-by-side installation (NETChart for VS 2003/Framework 1.1 and NETChart for VS 2005/Framework 2.0), while leaving the core functionality intact for both versions - developers are free to choose the platform as required. New functionality includes addition of an unlimited number of special value markers on the charts axis, custom formatting for all graph labels using formatting strings, gradient fills for different chart areas and optimized performance on rendering operations.

Besides supporting the original data sources, XML, DataSet and DataTable, NETChart 1.3 supports intrinsic types of .NET Framework, collections, enumerations and arrays. For .NET Framework 2.0, new DataSource based architecture is also supported (DataSourceControl as data source).

"NETChart 1.3 is a powerful and flexible chart-oriented platform with reliable architecture, which was verified by the successful migration to .NET Framework 2.0," said Dennis Afanassiev, software architect at DataArt. "The future release of NETChart, scheduled for Q2/2006, will be dedicated to WinForms support. We aim to provide the global reporting and charting services for all the environments, where Visual Studio and .NET developers might be needed".

About NetChart:

>NETChart is a powerful charting solution, which allows for a full control of the chart's graphic representation, customization of chart items, automatic and manual data-binding and an easy-to-implement drill-down mode of a chart, among other features. The component is written entirely on Microsoft.NET and uses methods from the framework, ensuring safe and efficient performance. Small Businesses Struggle to Offshore

March 06, 2006
In the scramble to save money overseas, small companies are at a serious disadvantage, writes CIO Insight magazine, a flagship publication by Ziff Davis. The feature article highlights key issues in outsourcing for SMBs, and provides the expert opinion of Eugene Goland, President of DataArt and founder of OOBP.org: "This market is underserved. There are structural difficulties that prevent smaller companies from taking advantage of offshoring, and yet these are the companies that have the most to gain."

The article offers sound advice for SMB offshoring, including that by Goland. "You must find a vendor that is small enough that the project you give him is of significant importance," Goland says. "If that's not the case, you will never get the right people to work on it. And if you cannot staff the project with the best people, it will fail. At the same time, the vendor should be strong enough to weather changes."

AirTroductions Built by DataArt Reaches 10,000 Members

March 03, 2006
AirTroductions, the first website allowing one to choose a seatmate before boarding your commercial flight, built by DataArt for Airkarma, achieved a major milestone when it registered its 10,000th member, in just over four months since launch.

Developed by DataArt, AirTroductions is scalable and customizable to every airline passenger's needs and requests and can grow with the industry. AirTroductions immediately shows travelers everyone else who has entered their profile for the same flight, and for a small fee ($5.00 round trip) users can contact anyone on their flight. If they like each other, they can switch their seats at the airport.

AirTroductions currently boasts members from over 75 countries and virtually every airline. The site supports journeys which consist of single or multiple consecutive flights, and provides an automatic match search and notifications on particular matches. The portal's front end incorporates a slick design and intuitive functionality, while the administrative interface integrates an embedded Content Management System, with highly customizable and easily administrable features.

"Our growth has been nothing short of amazing," said founder Peter Shankman. "DataArt has managed the technical aspect of scaling up the site without a hitch," he said. "With 10,000 members, we've proved the model works. Now it's time to really grow the site and take it to the next level, where every traveler has multiple matches on every flight," he said.
