Boot Camp Is No Obstacle for DataArt

May 20, 2005
DataArt's team is getting stronger and tougher. The company's EVP, Alexei Miller, has successfully completed a two-week boot camp in New York's Central Park. The original Navy Seal Physical Training course is famous among executives and fitness junkies alike. "A unique fitness boot camp based upon the principles of Discipline, Motivation and Team Camaraderie" means getting up at 4 AM for a daily two-hour non-stop work-out, while a Navy Seal Jack Walston challenges you at the top of his lungs. Forget weight lifting in a clean gym - this excercise is real - the routine includes crawling in the sand; hundreds of pushups and squats; running six miles with a 20 lbs sand back on your shoulders and carrying a friend for a mile. Rain or snow, the class is on. Naturally, one wonders why someone would do such a thing. Miller says, "To be in a good shape, one needs to challenge himself beyond occasional trips to a gym, and Jack's course is the ultimate challenge. Plus, you won't believe the kind of people you meet while crawling in the mud". He plans to take another course in July and recommends it to his friends and colleagues

The Russians Are Coming

May 15, 2005
DataArt is featured in the May issue of Hedge Fund & Investment Technology Magazine, a premiere publication for the asset management industry. Victor Anderson, the magazine's editor, was surprised "to find a burgeoning operation" of a hedge-fund focused technology consultancy "that has the expertise and ambition to challenge the industry's established players".

The magazine opens with an editorial, describing DataArt as "a firm that believes passionately in its ability to deliver value to its clients, while showing a transparency in running its operation the likes of which I haven't seen before on the buy side." It continues to say that "DataArt's transparency stems from its genuinely approachable upper management, which seeks to focus squarely on its clients rather than on marketing and slick presentation. This transparency extends to the firm's approach to project management, which has a direct impact on its clients: DataArt firmly believes in its representatives walking the walk – the person who consults with a client on a specific IT project is the same person who manages that project, from dealing with client feedback to actually writing code." The intro concludes that "those niche players who do want specialist technology – built to their specifications, with close co-operation from the consultancy and a speedy time to market – could do a lot worse than speak to the folks at DataArt."

The three-page interview with Alexei Miller, Executive Vice President, discusses DataArt's methodology for developing customized software for hedge funds, and addresses the benefits of working with an offshore technology consultancy.

Russian Outsourcing Company Sets up Shop in Jacksonville

May 10, 2005
The news of DataArt establishing a regional office in Florida was picked up by Jacksonville Business Journal and resulted in a feature story on company's expansion to the Sunshine state and its success with signing up a key client, Strategic Technologies, Inc. (STI). DataArt's Vladimir Lozovsky mentions operational transparency as one of the key factors in DataArt's success. STI's representative is quoted as saying that "the carefully weighed decision to… try DataArt was a matter of keeping competitive". The article also lists benefits of working with DataArt: developers in St. Petersburg upload their progress to a server daily if necessary for customer's need, adjust their work hours to match their customer's locations and can be reached through a local New York telephone number.
