Introduced to the market in the late 2007, Apple iPhone is the newest and most promising mobile platform, with unique features, such as high computing power, high-quality display and an innovative interface. Phenomenal sales of over six million devices worldwide in one year demonstrate that the market for iPhone applications is ripe.
The mix of features on an iPhone is equally attractive to consumer and enterprise markets, for business and entertainment applications alike. There are two types of iPhone applications – Web and native. A Web application is what Apple defines as a special Web-site optimized for an iPhone; it’s inexpensive to create but limited in its capabilities as is any web site, and requires an Internet connection. Native applications are more expensive to write but give access to essential platform capabilities such as GPS, speaker and microphone usage, and integration with built-in software.
DataArt has been exploring iPhone capabilities since a beta version of SDK had been made available, and continues to develop iPhone applications of various degrees of complexity.
