Mobile Solutions - BlackBerry

BlackBerry is one of the most popular handheld devices among business users, well-known for its push e-mail feature, a convenient keyboard layout and high security. Commonly used in corporate environments, BlackBerry uses an array of enterprise business applications. Although it can run J2ME applications, their capabilities on a BlackBerry are limited. Therefore, a BlackBerry is usually programmed with native Java libraries, which provide access to all unique Java features.

DataArt completed a number of projects for BlackBerry, from simple enterprise applications to complex platform programming.

Case Studies

Blackberry Emergency Notification Client

DataArt has developed an application that allows users to send emergency e-mails, text messages and calls from a BlackBerry. A user fills in the text to be mass-distributed and chooses a method of distribution - voice, e-mail or text. The application allows simple query with up to five possible answers. The user may specify the list of users he wants the information to be transferred to.

The application supports user groups. After a user fills in the information, it’s submitted to a BlackBerry server that distributes the message and submits execution statistics back to the user’s device (number of successful/unsuccessful calls and query results).

Technical Highlights
The application allows the use of a server address book by synching a user device with the server.

Stock Market Monitoring Application for Blackberry

DataArt developed a BlackBerry application for creating sets of portfolios, tracking the changes of portfolios’ prices over time and viewing the prices’ change history.

The application allows users to create several portfolios by combining different stocks and to modify them as needed (add or delete). After portfolios are created, their price history can be retrieved from an online financial data provider (e.g. finance.yahoo.com) and viewed on a chart.

Technical Highlights
The application connects users to online financial data providers (e.g. finance.yahoo.com) and downloads data according to the portfolio parameters, after which the portfolio’s prices are calculated and presented graphically in a chart.
