MTA New York City Transit
Client case overview: MTA is the largest municipal transportation authority in the US, operating the New York City Subway, New York City Bus, Bridges and Tunnels and the Long Island Rail Road. The Capital Program Management (CPM) department of MTA New York City Transit manages a large-scale quality and process improvement program. Large amounts of data concerning mission critical construction and repair projects are processed to identify improvement areas, derive best practices and then distribute the information to the range of affected parties. Due to the variety of information sources and amount of data involved, it took CPM months to collect and analyze critical information. A robust and scaleable data collection and analysis solution was necessary.

| DataArt developed an Intranet-based Lessons Learned software suite, streamlining the information gathering and providing a set of real-time data analysis tools.
Solution features:
- Work Order data input and processing
- Lessons Learned objects extraction
- Real-time reports, in tabular, graphical or PivotTable form
- Different levels of reports for Lessons Learned group and senior management
- Best practices "knowledge" database
- Subject Matter Experts contact database
- Contractor Quality Workshops registration and action items tracking system
Throughout the development project, DataArt acted as both technology consultant and software development lab. Through numerous interviews with NYCT staff, DataArt gathered high-level requirements for the process automation system, then prototyped it on different levels. It was then reviewed with NYCT before being piloted for development. This ensured that the resulting software system matched the target users' needs.
Combining the NYC-based consulting and project management staff with a highly productive offshore development force, DataArt was able to deliver the Lessons Learned process automation solution quickly and with exceptionally high quality. The system is used throughout the Lessons Learned department at CPM and provides major operational and analytical benefits to NYCT management.
The system has received very positive feedback from NYCT and other MTA organizations. NYCT is planning on developing the system further and placing improvement processes under the Lessons Learned software framework.
