July 28, 2004In the midst of summer, DataArt decided to investigate a nearby infrastructure and was pleasantly surprised to find an excellent football and volleyball facility. Taking advantage of the opportunity to stretch the legs, the company's "Dream Team" has already held several matches. We would like to create a tradition of weekly football and volleyball games and extend an open invitation to friendly companies.
New Version of DataArt's Testing Framework
July 27, 2004A new version of DataArt's testing framework has been developed by the Java department. This new version contains many enhancements to the framework's report and visualization tools. The framework greatly increases quality and reduces cost by combining the efforts of QA teams working on Java projects with the software performing automatic tests. Test cases for this software are created by QA teams, allowing them to spend less time on more routine operations. The time spent to create even a sophisticated test case is always less than the time spent checking test cases manually from day to day. Automation of the most routine operations also greatly reduces the risk of human error and concentrates QA teams on the more important tasks that can hardly be done by automatic testers. The end result is an increase in quality for our software products.
Probationary Program Introduced
July 26, 2004The current rate of company growth and further expanding projects requires an inflow of newcomers to meet new demands. In response, DataArt has begun a new probationary program designed to attract and keep congenial people.
During the first meeting, Mikhail Zavileysky, Head of DataArt's St. Petersburg Office, presented the company's structure, values, history and ideology to a group of candidates. Then corporate issues were debated and the sharpest participants were awarded with a Brain-shaped paperweight. The meeting proved to be a success and future meetings are planned. So far, nearly 120 people have applied for the program and applications are still coming in.
To summarize, Mikhail Zavileysky said, "We don't provide illusions. We are always very sincere and open about sharing our information. We wish to find 'DataArt' people."
Vice President of Red Hat visited Saint Petersburg
July 23, 2004Alex Pinchev, Vice President of a leading Linux Red Hat contracts supplier, visited Saint Petersburg to take part in a press conference with leading Russian Linux companies. DataArt has been working with a number of large Linux projects. Alex Pinchev said, "One thing I can be sure of is that Red Hat will open an office in Russia. I just don't know when. Opening in Saint Petersburg would be a pleasure."
In response to the question of opposition between Linux and Windows, DataArt's COO Michael Zavileysky said, "The decisive battle
between Linux and Windows will take place on users' desktops. For the last 15 years, developers of open- code systems have been able to create high-grade operational systems. But even if a system's core of stability and security is at least comparable to the commercial server systems from Microsoft, desktop applications still look 'homebrewed.' The typical developer does not love or respect the 'pop' needs of patented
buttons from Apple or Microsoft. But as long as corporations are making money, the opportunity for technical geniuses to turn their talent into practical applications for users remains open."
