Software Outsourcing: DataArt Conducts Financial Technology Executive Webinar

DataArt Conducts Financial Technology Executive Webinar

May 22, 2007

As part of its Financial Technology events series, DataArt organized an executive Webinar, “How to Make Software Outsourcing Effective” which provided key insights on what works and what doesn’t in software outsourcing for small and mid-size financial technology companies

Marina Kolesnik, Senior VP at DataArt, shared the results of an outsourcing survey "The Changing Face of Outsourcing", jointly conducted by DataArt and Hedge Fund & Investment Technology magazine (now Buyside Technology). Among companies surveyed, more than 60 financial software companies utilize offshore talent, 88% of which do so for software development, 69% for testing and 64% for product design. Among key challenges for outsourcing, respondents named IP risk, delayed learning curve and lack of industry or product knowledge of a vendor’s team.

Tom Castriota, Founder and Managing Partner of Work American Style, discussed the importance of improving communications on offshore projects. Key tactics included creation of a communication plan, identifying key groups within a team, setting expectations and controlling the message. He also shared the mechanics of a communication plan that works, from organizing and recording meetings to setting up a reporting structure.

Alexei Miller, Executive VP at DataArt, devoted his presentation to two major success factors in the lifecycle of an outsourcing relationship: vendor selection process and outsourcing engagement models. The first suggested checking vendor compatibility with client-side application portfolio, as well as industry expertise and process compatibility. The latter focused on choosing correctly among the three engagement models: team-based (staff augmentation), project-based and application-based.

Software Outsourcing: DataArt Presents Russian IT Capabilities at IAOP Boston Chapter Meeting

DataArt Presents Russian IT Capabilities at IAOP Boston Chapter Meeting

May 10, 2007

DataArt was among five presenters at "Russia and Eastern Europe: Multisourcing at Work" panel, hosted by the Boston Chapter of International Association of Outsourcing Professionals (IAOP). The panel comprised of the leading vendors with operations in the region, presented Russia's strengths and differentiators in the area of IT outsourcing.

Marina Kolesnik, Senior VP at DataArt, spoke of Russia's demonstrated leadership in expertise based outsourcing, including areas such as high-end R&D and application development work, embedded software product development, system engineering, multi-platform expertise and algorithmic work as well as vertical specialization in financial, telecom and high-tech industries. Russia's other differentiators mentioned by panellists, included price, world class education, large talent pool, stable workforce and geographical/cultural proximity to European clients.

The IAOP Boston meeting is the first of many steps in a joint effort of vendors to showcase Russia as a destination of choice for R&D and application outsourcing. Panellists' examples covered a number of Fortune 500 companies that in the past few years have chosen Russia as a destination for outsourcing certain technology tasks because of the expertise and quality of resources available there. Presenters demonstrated how expertise based outsourcing allows delivering increased client value and improve ROI through effective high-performing resources. In conclusion, panelists advised the audience that proper outsourcing arrangements should be based on skill and expertise of a vendor, not its geographic location.

Software Outsourcing: DataArt Featured in IDC Analytical Report Highlighting Strengths of Russian Software Development Outsourcing Industry

DataArt Featured in IDC Analytical Report Highlighting Strengths of Russian Software Development Outsourcing Industry

May 03, 2007

DataArt is featured in a new IDC report which focuses on Russia as a location for offshore software development. The study, produced by IDC and sponsored by RUSSOFT, bases its findings on interviews with the U.S. and European firms that have outsourced development of software applications to companies with R&D operations in Russia.

The research finds that stability of the relationship, technical expertise, and relatively low staff turnover are key advantages of Russian software development companies. Though price is often behind the initial supplier choice, these factors influence strongly the quality of service and strength of the relationship that customers value in their dealings with outsourcing providers with R&D operations in Russia.

Participating companies pointed to the availability of very well educated engineers, strong technical skills, and sound methodologies. DataArt is profiled as a company with specific business domain expertise, low attrition and high customer retention rates, with market focus in financial (asset management), telecom and media sectors.

“We are glad that Russia has finally gained a prominent place on the radar of leading research organizations studying worldwide IT markets,” said Eugene Goland, President of DataArt. “Russia is often overshadowed by other geographical locations for pure volumes of outsourcing, whereas its main offering is specific skills and expertise, often not found in other places.”
